Hintergrund: Myopie ist weit
verbreitet. Die Häufigkeit stieg über die letzten Jahrzehnte an und wird
voraussichtlich bis 2050 bereits 49,8% aller Menschen betreffen. In
osteopathischer Literatur wird wiederholt über die Wichtigkeit einer Synchondrosis
sphenooccipitalis (SSB) -Behandlung bei Problemen der Augen gesprochen, Studien
dazu sind jedoch rar.

Ziel: Erfassen des Einflusses
einer isolierten SSB-Behandlung auf die Akkommodation im Vergleich zu einer
Kontrollgruppe.

Methode: Die
Fern- und Nahakkommodation wurde vor und nach einer Intervention untersucht. Bei
der Interventionsgruppe (n=27) wurde die SSB auf Dysfunktionen
untersucht und mittels Point of Balance-Technik therapiert. In der
Kontrollgruppe (n=26) wurde eine Placebo-Behandlung durch einen
Laien an der oberen Thoraxapertur im selben Zeitausmaß durchgeführt. Die Kontrolle
der Fernakkommodation fand mittels logMAR-Sehtafel statt. Die Nahakkommodation
wurde mit einem Akkomodometer mittels Push-up- sowie Pull-away Test
festgestellt.

Ergebnisse: Der Großteil der
Testdaten ergab keine signifikanten Ergebnisse. Die Nahakkommodation am linken
Auge verschlechterte sich in der Interventionsgruppe signifikant, jedoch ebenso
in der Kontrollgruppe. Addiert man beide Methoden zur Messung der
Nahakkommodation ergeben sich keine signifikanten Ergebnisse. Das einzige
signifikante Ergebnis, das nur in der Interventionsgruppe auftrat, jedoch in
der Kontrollgruppe ausblieb, betraf die Fernakkommodation des rechten Auges.
Hier kam es zu einer deutlichen Verbesserung (p?0,001).

Diskussion: Eine alleinige Point
of Balance-Technik an der SSB kann für die Verbesserung der Fernakkommodation
am rechten Auge empfohlen werden. Ein Abraten von der Technik ist nicht
notwendig. Weitere Studien werden empfohlen.

Abstract
Title: Changes in visual acuity due to therapy of
sphenooccipital synchondrosis in myopic patients - a double-blind study

Background: Myopia is one of
the most common eye diseases. The prevalence has increased over the past
decades and is expected to affect 49,8% of all people by 2050.
Osteopathic literature has repeatedly referred to the importance of
Synchondrosis sphenooccipitalis, also named sphenobasilaris (SBS), treatment impaired
vision.

Aim: This double-blind, randomized
sham-therapy-controlled clinical study seeks to determine if short-distance and
long-distance accommodation can be influenced in myopic people by a single
craniosacral Point of Balance treatment on the SBS.

Method: An experimental group (n=27) and a
control group (n=26), mean age 29,25 ±9.75, range 20-39,
were selected according to exclusion/inclusion
criteria. The experimental group was tested and treated on the SBS. The control
group received a placebo treatment by a layperson at the upper thoracic
aperture in the same timeframe. Before and after intervention the short-distance
and long-distance accommodation was tested using push-up test, pull-away test
and a logMAR chart.

Results: Short-distance accommodation on the left eye
decreased significantly in the intervention group, and in the control group.
Summarized, both methods, which tested the short-distance accommodation do not produce any significant results. A significant
result that occurred only in the intervention group but not in the control
group is the distant vision of the right eye. There was a significant
improvement (p?0,001).

Conclusion: The issue and the
hypothesis are confirmed partially. A single Point of Balance technique at the
SBS can be recommended for the improvement of distant vision in the right eye.
It is not necessary to advise against using the technique. Other studies on
this topic are recommended.
