Introduction: The aim of the study was showing the effectiveness of Balanced Ligamentous Tension (BLT) techniques with respect to the use of Infrared (IR) in the treatment of mechanical cervical disease.This represents one of the most frequent musculoskeletal pathologies; therefore, it is considered that Osteopathy had to provide improvements.Method: It was a pilot study with sample of twenty subjects recruited with a sampling for convenience between thirty and fifty years.
The data was collected using the Neck Disability Index (NDI). A first session was dedicated to complete the test and receive treatment, and the last session to complete the test.
The dependent variables studied were: pain intensity, headache and common work tasks and activities.
Result:Significant improvements were made in relation to the NDI test. The BLT obtained better results than IR in the degree of pain. Improvements in men were higher than in women, in both techniques, and the subjects treated in BLT showed better results in relation to painful intensity and work activity.
Conclusions:The treatment with BLT was more effective than with IR because it contributed significant improvements in the painful intensity and in the labor activity. - Abstract

Introducció: L’objectiu de l’estudi era demostrar l’efectivitat de la tècnica de Balance Ligamentous Tension (BLT) respecte l’ús de l’Infraroig (IR) en el tractament de la cervicàlgia mecànica. Aquesta representa una de les patologies múscul esquelètiques més freqüents pel que es va considerar que l’osteopatia havia d’intervenir o aportar millores.
Mètode: Es tractava d’un estudi pilot amb una mostra de 20 subjectes reclutats amb un mostreig per conveniència, entre els 30 i 50 anys. Es van recollir les dades mitjançant el Neck Disability Index (NDI). Una primera sessió era per emplenar el test i rebre el primer tractament, i una darrera sessió per emplenar el test. Les variables dependents van ser intensitat de dolor, cefalea, realització de treball i activitats habituals.
Resultats: Es van donar millores significatives en relació al test NDI. El BLT obtenia millor resultat que IR en el grau de dolor. Les millores en homes eren superiors que en dones, en ambdues tècniques i els subjectes tractats amb BLT presentaven millors resultats en relació a la intensitat dolorosa i a l’activitat laboral.
Conclusions: El tractament amb BLT va ser més efectiu que amb IR donat que aportava millores significatives en la intensitat del dolor i en l’activitat laboral. - presented at
