- Abstract
- The following is a review of the theoretical basis of the osteopathic approach to strabismus in children. Osteopathy focuses on the cause of health disorders, which requires understanding the mechanisms of production of the lesion or pathology in order to design an effective treatment plan for each individual patient.A systematic literature review has been used to achieve the objectives of the present research. The following essay describes certain anatomical relationships specific to the visual system followed by a description of the causes of strabismus, which helps to understand the osteopathic approach due to their interrelationship. In short, this essay explains what the current treatments for strabismus consist of, both allopathic and osteopathic, to finally analyze if both approaches can be complementary.In order to gather the most relevant literature the search strategy was centered on the following data bases: Medline Plus, WebMD, PubMed, Google Scholar, BMJ journals, LWW journals, Journal of the American Osteopathic Association y American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. - Este trabajo consiste es una revisión de las bases teóricas del abordaje osteopático del estrabismo en niños. La osteopatía pretende abordar la causa del estrabismo y para ello necesita entender el mecanismo de producción de la lesión para poder elaborar un plan de tratamiento eficaz para cada paciente.El diseño utilizado para alcanzar los objetivos del estudio ha sido una revisión literaria sistemática, en el cual se describen las relaciones anatómicas específicas del sistema visual y las causas del estrabismo, y mediante su interrelación entender el abordaje osteopático.De forma resumida, explica en qué consisten los tratamientos actuales para el estrabismo, tanto a nivel alopático como osteopático, analizando si ambos se podrían complementar.Para recopilar la literatura más relevante la estrategia de búsqueda se centró en las siguientes bases de datos: Medline Plus, WebMD, PubMed, Google académico, BMJ journals, LWW journals, Journal of the American Osteopathic Association y American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Literatura, artículos, publicaciones y páginas web también se utilizaron para obtener información adicional.
