- Abstract
- IntroductionThe current research into the effects of manual therapy and treatment modalities and their efficacy in the treatment of lower back pain is inconclusive, with contrasting arguments both for and against. With lower back pain being a common clinical presentation, ongoing research is needed to establish the effectiveness of various treatment modalities. AimsTo compare the effects of standardised osteopathic treatment (soft tissue technique and neuromuscular cross-fibre technique) with and without the addition of harmonic technique. This study analysed subjects visual analogue readings (VAS) pre and post intervention and at 24,48 and 72 hours post intervention. ResultsA statistically significant reduction in VAS was found in the harmonics group at 72 Hours post intervention when compared to the standardised group. ConclusionThe results suggest that standardised osteopathic treatment with the addition of harmonic technique shows promise in reducing subjects’ pain levels when compared to standardised treatment alone.
